We’re heading out on a photo walk in and around the Remai Modern with a specific goal: to simplify. We will meet in front of the Remai Modern (102 Spadina Crescent East) on June 11th at 6pm. Leader: Jannik Plaetner.
For this walk, I suggest you set your camera to shoot in black and white – something which most mirrorless cameras can do. Removing colour forces you to see differently. Line, shape, contrast, value, and balance become the subject. The architecture and surrounding space give us plenty to work with: clean lines, hard edges, open areas, and strong light.
We’re not chasing complexity. Quite the opposite. Look for minimal compositions. Strip the scene down. Pay attention to how elements relate, how much you can leave out, and how much you can still leave out and still have the image hold together
Slow down. Be deliberate. Keep it simple.
