“Striking Dreams” Finding Passion in Turbulent Sky with Jenny Hagan

Award-winning and inter-nationally published photographer and severe weather chaser from Saskatchewan.

In this inspiring and visually captivating presentation, Jenny Hagan, a photographer and severe weather enthusiast, takes the audience on a journey through her extraordinary life and artistic vision. From her rural Saskatchewan roots, where she experienced the raw power of nature firsthand, to her pursuit of storm-chasing and photography, Jenny’s story is one of resilience, passion, and the relentless pursuit of dreams.

Jenny’s deep connection to severe weather began when she was just seven years old, flung through the air in a tent during a plow wind. This event ignited a lifelong fascination with storms, which only intensified when she saw the character Jo Harding in the movie Twister—the only female role model she could look up to in that field. Although raising a family delayed her ability to fully pursue this passion, it never left her, quietly simmering until 2009 when she picked up a camera and pointed it toward the sky. In that moment, with a click of the shutter and a bolt of lightning, her love for the storm was reignited.

Over the next 14 years, Jenny honed her skills in weather forecasting, storm chasing, and photography, traveling across North America to capture the raw beauty of nature’s most intense moments. Her work has earned her worldwide recognition and numerous awards, inspiring others to harness the same courage and strength storms embody.

But her journey hasn’t been without its storms—literal and metaphorical. After facing the closure of her photo studio due to the COVID-19 pandemic and her son’s diagnosis with liver disease, Jenny endured yet another setback when a fall from her roof fractured her vertebrae. Despite these challenges, she rebuilt her life and career, transitioning into media and rising quickly through the ranks at a local radio station. Today, she is the news content lead for west central Saskatchewan, covering everything from tornadoes to blizzards with her signature passion and commitment.

In this presentation, Jenny not only shares her stunning storm photography but also invites the audience to reflect on the power of resilience. Each image serves as a metaphor for the strength and determination required to chase one’s dreams, even in the face of life’s most difficult challenges. Through Jenny’s lens, viewers will witness the raw beauty and intensity of storms—an embodiment of the unyielding spirit of those who continue to push forward, no matter what obstacles stand in their way.

The central message of the presentation is simple yet profound: don’t wish upon shooting stars—wish upon bolts of lightning. Embrace the power, energy, and unpredictability of life’s storms to fuel your dreams. Whether through photography or life itself, Jenny’s work shows us how to harness that strength to fearlessly pursue our passions, empower ourselves, and overcome adversity.

This presentation is a celebration of perseverance, courage, and the unbreakable spirit of those who dare to chase the storm. Through her powerful imagery and personal story, Jenny inspires us all to embrace our own power to create, to dream, and to rebuild after life’s most challenging moments.
