It is a full week for photography at the Saskatoon Photography Club!
You have a presentation to attend, a fall field trip to enjoy and three submission deadlines to keep on your radar. Whether you are preparing your first competition entry or simply looking for a reason to get outside with your camera, there is plenty to take part in.
Here is what is coming up.
Tuesday, October 6: John Perret presents “The Camera Doesn’t Get The Last Word”
Our main event next week is a presentation by John Perret of Saskatoon, titled “The Camera Doesn’t Get The Last Word.”
Join us on:
- Tuesday, October 6, 2026
- 7:00–9:00 p.m.
- McClure United Church
- 4025 Taylor Street East, Saskatoon
View the event details for John Perret’s presentation.
The title alone gives us something to think about. Photography does not end when you press the shutter. Your choices after capture (how you select, interpret and present an image) can shape the final story just as strongly as the original moment.
Come ready to listen, look closely and consider how your own creative decisions influence a photograph.
Meeting details
Meetings take place at McClure United Church. Use the east door nearest the parking lot. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and meetings typically run from 7:00–9:00 p.m.
There is:
- Free parking
- Step-free access
- A welcoming environment for photographers at every experience level
New to the club? You are welcome to join us. Your first meeting is free to try.

Saturday, October 3: Fall Field Trip around Outlook and Lake Diefenbaker
Before Tuesday’s presentation, we will be out photographing the changing season on the Fall Field Trip.
This is a full day of fall photography around Outlook and Lake Diefenbaker, with several planned stops along the way.
Fall Field Trip details
- Saturday, October 3, 2026
- Meet at 9:00 a.m.
- Meeting point: Western Development Museum in Saskatoon
- Expected return: Approximately 3:00–3:30 p.m.
- Contact: Howard Ruston, 306-717-1004
The outing includes photo stops and a coffee and washroom break at Prairie Bean Roastery. Planned locations include Spring Creek Church and its old windmill, Outlook’s old steel pedestrian bridge, Danielson Park, Gardiner Dam, a bison farm, old yard sites and the grain elevators at Glenside.
Bring your camera, comfortable clothing and anything you need for a day on the road. Fall light can change quickly, so watch for opportunities in both open landscapes and smaller details: colourful vegetation, weathered structures, reflections, textures and the lines created by roads, bridges and grain elevators.
View the Fall Field Trip event page for the latest details.
Remember, the images you make on this outing are the ones you can later enter in the Fall Field Trip competition. You will have until November 26 to choose your entry, so do not feel you need to decide on your final image during the trip itself.
Three deadlines to circle
All online submissions close at 10:00 p.m. Saskatoon local time on the published deadline date. Give yourself enough time to select, prepare and upload your image before the cutoff.
Deadline 1: Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 10:00 p.m.
CAPA Nature / Wildlife Submission Deadline
Submit:
- One digital “Nature / Wildlife” entry
- For the CAPA Club Competition
This is a great opportunity to look through your existing files for an image that shows animals, plants or the natural world with a strong sense of place and visual impact.
Review the CAPA Nature / Wildlife competition details.
See the club’s Nature / Wildlife deadline information.

Deadline 2: Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 10:00 p.m.
Fall Competition – Animal Submission Deadline
Submit:
- One digital “Animal” entry
- For the Fall Competition
- The image must be monochrome
This monochrome requirement is part of the spirit of the club’s 90th anniversary. If you have a strong animal image in colour, consider how it changes when you remove colour from the equation.
Look for shape, texture, contrast, gesture and expression. A monochrome animal photograph does not need to be dramatic to be effective. Quiet moments can work beautifully when the tonal structure is strong.

Deadline 3: Thursday, November 26, 2026 at 10:00 p.m.
Summer Fun, Fall Field Trip & Treasure Hunt Submission Deadline
This deadline includes three club competitions. Submit:
- Summer Fun: 1 digital image
- Fall Field Trip: 1 digital image
- Treasure Hunt: 1 complete set of 5 digital images
The five Treasure Hunt topics are:
- The Letter H
- Harvest Gold
- Hang
- Horse
- Hat
The Treasure Hunt calls for minimal post-processing and manipulation. That makes this a chance to focus on observation, timing and interpretation in camera. Start looking now for everyday subjects that can fit the prompts in unexpected ways.
Members will vote on these three competitions online.
