The evening is free to attend, and newcomers can try their first meeting for free. Whether you are picking up a camera for the first time, returning to photography after a break or working towards national-level competitions, you are welcome here.

What we’ll cover
This Education-category meeting has two useful parts.
A quick look at the new website refresh
We’ll take a look at the club’s refreshed website and walk through how to submit entries. If you have ever wondered where to find a competition deadline, how to choose the correct event or where to upload your image, this is a good opportunity to get oriented.
You can also review the process ahead of time through the club’s submissions page. Online submissions close at 10:00 p.m. Saskatoon local time on the published deadline date.
Growing as a photographer using AI
Next, we’ll look at how you can grow as a photographer using AI. Hosted by Scott Prokop, the discussion will focus on learning and development rather than replacing your creative judgement.
AI is becoming part of the photography conversation. Used thoughtfully, it can help you explore ideas, organize your learning and ask better questions about your creative process. The photographer still brings the intention, observation and decision-making that shape a meaningful image.
Come ready to learn, listen and consider how new tools might support your own photography journey.
Fall deadlines to keep close
The next few weeks include several opportunities to make photographs, share your work and participate in club and CAPA-affiliated activities. Here are the key dates.
CAPA Nature / Wildlife
The first deadline is for one digital “Nature / Wildlife” entry for the CAPA Club Competition.
DEADLINE: Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 10:00 p.m. Saskatoon local time
Submit your entry through the club’s online submissions page. You can also review the CAPA Nature / Wildlife competition details and the CAPA competition information.
CAPA opportunities connect our club community with national recognition through our CAPA affiliation. They are a chance to share your work beyond the club while continuing to learn from the experience of preparing and submitting an image.
Fall Field Trip: Outlook and Lake Diefenbaker
On Saturday, October 3, we’ll spend the day photographing the fall landscape around Outlook and Lake Diefenbaker.
Schedule details:
- Meet at: Western Development Museum in Saskatoon
- Departure: 9:00 a.m.
- Expected return: Approximately 3:00–3:30 p.m.

Planned stops include:
- Spring Creek Church and its old windmill
- Outlook’s old steel pedestrian bridge over the South Saskatchewan River
- Danielson Park for lunch and washrooms
- Gardiner Dam
- A bison farm
- Old yard sites
- The grain elevators at Glenside
- Prairie Bean Roastery for a coffee and washroom stop
This is a full day of photographic possibilities, from fall colour and prairie structures to river views, industrial details and rural history. Bring your camera, watch the weather and think about the kinds of stories you want your images to tell.

Fall Competition: Animal
The next competition deadline asks you to submit one digital “Animal” entry. There is one important creative requirement: the image must be Monochrome, in the spirit of the Club’s 90th anniversary.
DEADLINE: Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 10:00 p.m. Saskatoon local time
Start looking through your existing files now. A strong animal image does not always depend on dramatic action. Consider gesture, texture, expression, shape and the relationship between the subject and its surroundings. Converting an image to monochrome can also help you see the photograph differently by placing greater emphasis on tone, contrast and form.

The club’s CAPA Nature / Wildlife and Monochrome competition opportunities are also part of our connection to national recognition through CAPA. Participating gives you a reason to edit carefully, make creative choices and put your work forward.
A simple plan for the next two weeks
With several dates close together, a little preparation will make everything easier.
✔ Attend the September 29 orientation. Bring your website and submission questions.
✔ Review the submission categories. Confirm that your image matches the required topic before uploading.
✔ Choose your Nature / Wildlife entry early. Leave time to review the image and complete the submission before the October 1 cutoff.
✔ Plan for the field trip. Check the route, prepare for a full day and consider what you want to photograph around Outlook and Lake Diefenbaker.
✔ Begin looking for a monochrome animal image. Try several possible photographs before deciding which one best fits the Fall Competition.
✔ Set reminders for 10:00 p.m. The online submission cutoffs use Saskatoon local time.
